If you’ve ever visited a residential care home, you know how much residents value taking part in special activities – and outings play an important role.

Bus outings offer a new window on the world for residents. They provide an important change of scenery that can stimulate the senses, as well as opportunities to revisit familiar places and discover new ones.

Outing can be as simple as visiting the local mall to select clothes, pick out a special birthday present for a family member or even do some Christmas shopping.

It could also be a simple as going to a restaurant for lunch. Residents in our care homes depend on so many things in their day-to-day lives. Having the chance to choose a meal from a restaurant menu from time to time is a way to feel more independent. They can choose what they’d really like to have, rather than accept a meal from the limited menu options offered at their care home.

Right now one of the buses used for in Providence Health Care’s residential care community is old and needs replacing. With your help, we can get our residents into a new bus enjoying outings around the city.
